130 Voters Come Out for Fire District Elections

Folks cast their ballots between 6 and 9 Tuesday night.

With roughly 70 percent of voters backing him,  (BFD) veteran Rick Tofte has reportedly won the race for an open district commissioner spot.

According to Richard Hiss, chairman of the , Tofte took 94 votes, while incumbent Ed O'Hara took 35. The remaining vote named a write-in candidate.

Tofte is slated to take over as one of five commissioners of the Brewster-Southeast Joint Fire District next month. These officials oversee the district and the accompanying budget, which allocates tax dollars for everything from buildings and grounds maintenance to the costs associated with apparatus and gear, according to commissioner Ken Clair, Jr.

"I just want to thank all those who came out to support me tonight," Tofte wrote to Patch in an email after the vote Tuesday. "And I look forward to being able to support the taxpayers and the fire department as best I can."
