BPD Cop Heads to Yonkers

Village officials recently hired another officer.

The Brewster Police Department (BPD) is a bit smaller these days.

Since February, four members have left. , and . The last, Officer John Croston, 35, recently joined Yonkers' force. The Westchester resident had been a Brewster cop for about four years.

Officials swore in former New York Police Department Lt. Edward Swarm, 49, late last month. The Mahopac resident is now a part-timer, as are all of BPD's members.

DelGardo and Mayor Jim Schoenig have been interviewing to fill one more officer position.

At a meeting this week, DelGardo told Village officials that running the department with two fewer members—15 in total—will work out well. He said he is still able to maintain the schedule, and several of the cops are happy to pick up a few more hours.
