Brewster Man, Arrested Twice in 1 Month, Faces Assault Charge

After the incident, he took off on foot, with two citizens chasing behind, according to police.

An 18-year-old Brewster man, who was arrested earlier this month on a felony criminal mischief charge, is now facing a misdemeanor assault charge, officials say.

Officers Stephanie Perro and Louis Romano arrested Adonis Salazar-Gonzalez at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Police Chief John DelGardo.

Salazar-Gonzalez is accused of entering Jack & Jill Lounge and punching the owner with a closed fist, after being asked to leave because he was carrying a beer obtained outside the establishment.

The defendant reportedly took off on foot, and two patrons chased after him, while staff members called for police. The pair was able to detain the man, who appeared to be intoxicated, DelGardo said.

Authorities charged Salazar-Gonzalez with third-degree assault. He was arraigned before Village Justice Richard O'Rourke and sent to the Putnam County Correctional Facility on $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond bail, pending an April 8 appearance in court.

Officials say a family member, acting on behalf of the defendant, posted bail in connection with the March 2 incident.

Victoria Fiallo March 20, 2013 at 03:12 pm
Yes, there is a bar on main street, but you wouldn't want go there. He is 18, where did he get the other and beer? Something needs to be done about cleaning up main street!

Something needs to be done. We are sick of the rude, crude remarks that most of the time are not in english. My daughters and I don't feel comfortable. I grew up here and this was not tolerated then, why are these people treated special. Check for ID's (Government ID's) If you are paying taxes and being a productive part of society we welcome you.
Start with the landlords, how many people can occupy one dwelling? Drunks on the streets at all hours and we pay for them to be brought to hospital, and WE pay the bill. You our government need to FIX this problem. Stop being so liberal. CLEAN UP BREWSTER!

I'm still trying to figure out where the bar on Main St. is... not to mention why anyone would say I wouldn't want to go there.

Liz. Young under aged caucatian people act the same way. I've been living here 18 years & seen the same rudeness from young under aged caucatian in other communities too. And believe or not, the girls are worst than the guys. It all starts at Home & Your Family on how you behave & act. But I do hear what your saying about contributing to society.

Uhm.. wait... doesn't this last post violate Patch's Terms of Use (http://southeast.patch.com/terms) re: spelling? Oh wait. There is no Patch Terms of Use about spelling. Well... maybe there should be... fyi: it's caucasian. Just saying. Rich F

Sorry Rich. Was typing rapidly & My HTC phone puts out the spelling of the words and you just tap on it. It was late, I was tired, it looked like caucasian. I guess most people new what I was saying. I'm sure you've never made a mistake before in your life. Just Saying.

I've updated the story.

Mario. I said most (Not all) of the time it is not in English. I also stated that when I was growing up here this was not allowed, I did not say it didn't happen. People were not allowed to just hang around on the street doing nothing, it is intimidating whatever the nationality of the people. It is unfair to the businesses that are affected by the "PEOPLE" hanging out. Go hang out at your own home or your friends house. As we were told keep moving. And I do agree the young girls can be just as bad as the guys. But I seem to see more men unable to walk straight usually at night, even sometimes on my way to work in the morning, at least they are not driving but they might walk into the street (and get hit by a car) since they are having a hard time staying on the sidewalk. All I'm saying is Clean up Brewster so it can be enjoyed by ALL.

Wow!!! It was so much easier growing up on Morris Park Ave in the Bronx,"back in the day"... If the city or local NYPD didn't take care of the problems like we have here in Brewster, then all the local residents took matters into their own hands and cleaned up the neighborhood. That's when you get results!!!
Marion March 24, 2013 at 10:58 pm
It's not a bar, E-Yore Harris...It's a pool hall with a cafe that serves the best food in Brewster and we also sell beer and wine. Can't miss our sign...big awning that says POOL HALL - cafe and Billiards. Of course, there is strictly a bar right next door to us on main street and a couple across from us. Guess you don't get to Main Street Brewster too often, huh?
