Car Crashes into Pillar Outside Marshalls, Michaels in Southeast

The driver apparently hit the gas instead of the brake while making a turn in the parking lot.

Officials say no one was injured when a vehicle crashed into a brick pillar outside the Marshalls and Michaels stores on Independent Way in Southeast Friday morning.

Members of the Brewster Fire Department (BFD) and state troopers from the Southeast Barracks responded to the accident, which occurred at about 10:45.

The driver was an 82-year-old Carmel woman. Apparently, she hit the gas instead of the brake while making a turn in the parking lot, causing the front of the 1996 Honda Accord to strike the pillar, according to BFD Chief Bill Rieg.

He said the damage was concentrated to the bricks surrounding one of the beams that supports the buildling. The beam itself was not touched.

A BFD ambulance transported the woman, who complained of pain, to the Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel.

Um...Since I live in Southeast, I can't vote for Mayor of the Village of Brewster. So why do youRead More think I, a taxpayer of Southeast, paid for this destruction when I really don't have a clue to what happens in the Village? There's a disconnect that needs to addressed.
