Police arrested a 26-year-old man—who left the vehicle he was driving during an Oct. 15 hit-and-run in Southeast at a Brewster gas station—Wednesday, authorities say.
Officials from the Southeast Barracks of the State Police charged Hugo R. Martinez with four infractions—driving with no license, driving a vehicle lacking an inspection certificate, leaving the scene of an accident and operating an unregistered vehicle—after his lawyer contacted troopers, they told Patch.
Martinez is also facing a misdemeanor charge of third-degree possession of a forged instrument. That's linked to a fictitious Delaware license plate, police said.
The crash occurred the afternoon of Oct. 15, at the intersection of Deans Corner Road and Route 22. Martinez was reportedly operating a 1999 Ford SUV, which collided with a 2005 Jeep. No one was injured, but both vehicles sustained damage, according to authorities.
State police and members of the Brewster Police Department located the Ford about 15 minutes later, in the parking lot of the Xtra Mart on Main Street. They used surveillance video and items in the car to identify the defendant.
Martinez was released pending a future appearance in Southeast Justice Court.
