Officials say they've served a criminal summons to a 56-year-old Southeast woman in connection with a bizarre scene that took place outside a Patterson restaurant earlier this summer.

The defendant is facing a violation, second-degree harassment, after she allegedly pushed the parents of a 2-and-a-half year old girl. The Carmel pair was reportedly changing the child's diaper in the trunk of their car in the parking lot of a Route 22 restaurant June 28.

Police say the woman, who appeared to be intoxicated, observed the activity and feared the couple was going to lock the baby in the truck. She allegedly pushed the parents "in an effort to grab hold of the child," who remained untouched.

The parents reported the incident and police delivered the summons to the defendant at her residence last week Aug. 19. She's due in Patterson Justice Court next month.
