Man Involved in Crash Faces DWI, DWAI Charges

The New York State Police provided the following information. It does not indicate a conviction.

Police say a 27-year-old Southeast man was driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs when the vehicle he was operating crashed on Route 312.

Matthew J. Flanagan is facing three misdemeanor charges: driving while intoxicated, first-degree driving while ability impaired by drugs and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to officials.

Troopers from the Southeast Barracks arrested him at about 10:40 p.m. Sunday, shortly after the accident. He was driving a 2001 Lincoln LS, which was towed from the scene, police told Patch. They were unable to say what caused the crash. No other vehicles were involved.

Flanagan was allegedly in possession of Suboxone, a drug used to treat opiate addiction. Authorities were unable to provide a blood-alcohol level, as the defendant reportedly refused to submit to a chemical test.

Police released Flanagan pending a Dec. 6 appearance in Southeast Justice Court.
