Police Nab Connecticut Man They Say Robbed Putnam Bank Twice

The New York State Police and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department jointly announce the arrest of Michael J. McTighe, 46 of  New Fairfield, CT for two counts of Robbery 3rd (D felony) and one count of Attempted Robbery 3rd (E felony).

This arrest was the result of a lengthy joint investigation into the robberies of the Putnam County National Bank located on Haviland Drive, Putnam Lake NY.

The robberies occurred on December 20, 2013 and January 2, 2014.

An odd occurrence which police classified as an attempt was made on January 21, 2014

"The lobby of the bank was closed, however, its drive-in window was open for business," officials said at the time. "A customer attempted to enter the building telling a bank employee that he needed to get something from his safety deposit box. As the employee went to unlock the door, she observed a second man wearing a ski mask outside the bank. The teller kept the door locked and the would-be perpetrator ran off and fled in a white sedan ... there are similarities between the two previous bank robberies and this incident leading police to investigate this incident as an attempted robbery."

McTighe was extradited from Connecticut June 11 and arraigned before Town of Patterson Judge Anthony R Mole who sent him to the Putnam County jail in lieu of $250,000 cash or $500,000 Bond.

He is to reappear in court July 10.

"The arrest is the culmination of the outstanding cooperation, steadfast perseverance, and effective capabilities of state police and sheriff’s investigators in the case,” said Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith.
