Police: Driver Clocked at 97 MPH, Charged with DWI

Carmel man stopped on I-684 as part of special patrol in Westchester, Putnam.

A Carmel man who was driving 97 mph on I-684 was charged with drunken driving after he was stopped as part of a special enforcement effort early this morning in northern Westchester and Putnam County, according to State Police.

Andrew Woods, 29, of Carmel, was stopped in the Town of Southeast when he was spotted driving 97 mph in a 65 mph zone, police said. He was found to be intoxicated and police said a chemical breath test for alcohol showed he had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Woods was later releaded pending a Nov. 8 hearing in Southeast Town Court.

The enforcement effort led to:

- 11 speeding violations

- 1 seatbelt violation

- 17 other traffic offenses
