Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a 58-year-old Putnam Valley resident on criminal charges stemming from his alleged possession of two unregistered handguns.
On March 7, 2014, investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Westchester County District Attorney’s Office went to a home on Mill Pond Road to execute a search warrant at that residence.
Upon conducting the search of the premises, investigators found two unregistered handguns. Although the resident possessed a valid pistol permit, the weapons, described as two semi-automatic pistols were not registered on the permit and as a result were seized.
He was arrested by Sheriff’s Investigator Robert Ferris and charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a class “A” misdemeanor. He was released without bail pending a March 18th court appearance in Putnam Valley Justice Court.
Further administrative action, to include the suspension or revocation of his pistol permit, may be forthcoming by the Putnam County Court.
If convicted of a single count of the charge filed, he may be sentenced to a term of incarceration not to exceed one year in the Putnam County Correctional Facility as determined by a court.
