Port Chester Man Charged in $162 Theft

Resident arrested after incident at supermarket.

A 54-year-old Port Chester man is charged with shoplifting in connection with the theft of $162 worth of items from a supermarket, according to Port Chester Police.

Larry Johnson of 345 William St. was cited for petty larceny after an investigation of a 8:22 p.m. incident on Jan. 8 at Pathmark on Midland Avenue. Police said Johnson is accused of hiding six cans of baby formula and four packages of pain reliever in his coat.

Police said store security personnel reported they saw Johnson hiding the items via the store's video camera system.

Johnson faces a hearing in Port Chester Village Court.

These item are stolen for street resale. If these people actually need them for their actual purpose, they should have thought of that before having babies. Why are people having babies they can't afford? I'm tired of my taxes paying for your kids needs the schooling.

Thanks for all the comments and all your points are well taken. And not to contradict my earlier statement, I do not believe in handouts per se. My point was 1) an officer (or judge, like Anne mentioned) should mitigate these cases before ruining someone's life who maybe in despair,and yes I know that they could extra jobs, etc to pay for these things (but who really knows) And second, if you can, lend a hand.

Lend a hand! Just got my paycheck and the Gov't has helped themselves to more of my hard earned money for these so called individuals who are less fortunate. They should get their lazy able butt's off the couch, corners, and streets...get up everyday and go to WORK!! Stop being a burden to society and pay your dues. The economy can no longer sustain you.
