Putnam Deputy Charges Southeast Man with Drunken Driving

A 35-year-old Southeast man is facing a misdemeanor charge of aggravated driving while intoxicated after police pulled him over on Route 6 in town, according to authorities say.

Putnam County Sheriff's Deputy Edward Kennedy stopped the driver at about 3:10 a.m. Oct. 12 for committing a traffic violation, police said in a statement Monday.

Kennedy found the driver, a resident of Joe's Hill Road, to be intoxicated.

He was arrested and taken to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for processing. Officials there upgraded the driving while intoxicated charge to aggravated driving while intoxicated, which typically indicates a blood-alcohol level of at least 0.18 percent. The legal limit is 0.08.

The driver was held pending arraignment, police said.

Because they may be considered evidentiary, the Sheriff's Office generally does not release blood-alcohol levels.
