Serious Injury Reported in I-684 Crash

A three-car collision on Interstate 684 in Southeast Friday afternoon left a young man with a serious injury, according to officials.

The accident occurred at approximately 1 p.m., about a quarter mile south of the exit for 9E on northbound I-684. The vehicles rear-ended each other. Two were sedans and one was an SUV.

A young couple in one of the sedans was transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital in Connecticut, Brewster Fire Department (BFD) Chief Bill Rieg said. The woman had minor injuries while the man was semi-conscious with a head injury. A helicopter was dispatched but canceled because it would have taken too long, according to officials.

The family of four in the SUV refused medical attention. The driver in the other sedan went to Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel for minor injures.

Members of the BFD and the New York State Police responded to the crash. It was cleared within about an hour and 45 minutes.
