In a statement released late last week, police said that Sgt. Michael Nagle of the Carmel Police Department developed information on Rom while investigating an incident of graffiti. Officials arrested the suspect and learned that he was reportedly connected to similar crimes in Putnam Valley and Southeast.

Nagle passed along the information to Investigator John Alfano of the Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

"While conducting his investigation, Investigator Alfano located painted 'tags' on the side of a retail business, a fuel tank and on a Verizon telephone box in Putnam Valley and painted graffiti on the side of a store in Southeast," authorities said in the statement.

Police released Rom pending two court dates: May 1 in Putnam Valley and May 3 in Southeast.
