A 25-year-old Westchester man is facing a misdemeanor assault charge after he reportedly kicked and shoved a 22-year-old Carmel woman, according to authorities.
Members of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office arrested William Fabian Astudillo after the victim reported "that she was kicked and punched by an acquaintance during an argument at her Carmel home," officials said Monday. The woman, who was treated at Putnam Hospital Center, sustained bruises to several body parts, including her face.
Investigator John Alfano took the lead on the case. It led to a third-degree assault charge for Astudillo, who is a resident of Hunt Place in White Plains.
Police did not provide additional details on the incident.
The defendant was released following arraignment by Kent Town Justice Peter Collins, who was acting on behalf of Carmel Justice Court. Astudillo is due back Feb. 28.
"Domestic violence cases are very disturbing. Each year thousands of people
throughout the nation fall victim to domestic violence. Many times these serious crimes involve fear, injury or in the most extreme cases, death to its victims,” Sheriff Donald B. Smith said in a statement. “The Sheriff’s Office, recognizing these incidents as crimes, aggressively investigates each report received by the department and works with various agencies in providing justice for the victim of a crime, as well as a support network to aid in the healing process."
