Sheriff: Man Sold Crack Cocaine in Carmel, Mahopac

Authorities have arrested a 34-year-old Peekskill man on felony drug charges in connection with "street-level sales of crack cocaine" in Carmel and Mahopac, according to police.

An undercover deputy learned in March that a parolee—later identified as Omar Miles—from the City of Peekskill was dealing the drugs, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said in a release Thursday.

"Undercover officers infiltrated Mr. Miles’ operation and purchased narcotics from him on two occasions," police stated.

Authorities tracked Miles down July 5. He was the passenger in a vehicle with 27-year-old Ana Lopes, of New Rochelle, behind the wheel. Miles was arrested without incident.

Lopes was arrested, too. Police say she provided a false identity because of an outstanding warrant for a drug court violation. They also found cocaine in her vehicle, according to officials.

Miles—who allegedly had two bags of cocaine on him at the time of the arrest—is facing two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, all felonies.

Lopes, who was arrested on the warrant, is facing additional charges: third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and second-degree criminal impersonation, a misdemeanor.

"A criminal history record check of each defendant revealed that Mr. Miles has six prior felony convictions for narcotics-related offenses," the statement reads. "His criminal activities led him to serve prison terms in New York State correctional facilities. Records indicate that he was released from jail just prior to the commencement of the Sheriff’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit’s investigation."

Following arraignments before Carmel Town Justice Joseph Spofford, Lopes and Miles were sent to the Putnam County Correction Facility without bail. Each will be due in court at a later date.

The New York State Division of Parole was notified of Mr. Miles’ arrest, police report, and administrative action is "anticipated for him violating the terms and provisions of his release."
