Sheriff: Motorists Face Midemeanor Charges

Putnam County Sheriff's Office reports several recent arrests of motorists.

On April 7, 2014 at 7:51 a.m., while patrolling Route 9 in the Town of Philipstown, Deputy Sheriff Peter Vigillio received a license plate reader alert indicating a suspended registration on a vehicle in traffic. Upon initiating a traffic stop, the deputy confirmed that the driver, 36, of Cold Spring, held a suspended vehicle registration. The deputy charged him with Operating While Registration is Suspended, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the scene and released in his own recognizance pending a May 5, 2014 appearance in the Town of Philipstown Justice Court to answer the charge.

On April 9, 2014 at approximately 8:30 a.m., Deputy Sheriff William Quick stopped a speeding motorist on Route 9 in the Town of Philipstown. The deputy determined that driver, 19, of Wappingers Falls, held a suspended license. The deputy charged her with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the PCSD Nelsonville Substation, arraigned before Town of Philipstown Justice Alan Steiner and released in her own recognizance pending a May 7, 2014 court appearance.

On April 9, 2014 at 8:31 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Peter Vigillio stopped a motorist who had committed a traffic violation on Dennytown Road in the Town of Putnam Valley. The deputy determined that the driver, 29, of Carmel held a suspended license. The deputy charged him with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the scene and released in his own recognizance pending an April 24, 2014 appearance in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court to answer the charge.

On April 10, 2014 at 1:37 p.m., Deputy Vigillio stopped a motorist on Argyle Street in the Lake Peekskill section of the Town of Putnam Valley after receiving a license plate reader alert to a suspended registration on the vehicle. The deputy confirmed that the driver, 43, of Putnam Valley held a suspended vehicle registration. The deputy charged her with Operating While Registration is Suspended, a misdemeanor. The defendant was processed at the scene and released in her own recognizance pending a May 6, 2014 appearance in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court to answer the charge.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor charges, each defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.00 for each charge.
