Mourners Flock to Carmel for Sullivan Family Funeral

The Sullivan family funeral at St. James the Apostle Church draws nearly 1,000 mourners.

Gleneida Avenue in Carmel came to a standstill as approximately 1,000 mourners journeyed to St. James the Apostle Church to honor the Sullivan family members who .

More than 100 uniformed police officers stood silently beneath the cover of a cloudy gray sky. The quiet was shattered by the call of "Detail, attention!" followed by the roar of two dozen police motorcycles riding in procession past the church.

Mourners filed into the church for the funeral service for Thomas Sullivan, a captain in the Larchmont Police Department, 49, his wife Donna, 48, and their two daughters Meaghan, 18, and Mairead, 13. All four died in the blaze.

Family members comforted Thomas Sullivan Jr., 20, who escaped the fire. He stood next to his grandfather, John. The sole survivor held his father's uniform hat as the remains of his family were brought out of the church by Larchmont police officers and placed together into a single hearse.

Police department pipes and drum corps played as the Larchmont officers walked alongside the hearse, each placing a hand on the vehicle as it proceeded out of the church lot and back onto Gleneida Avenue, passing under a large American flag hung from tower ladders from the Carmel and Larchmont fire departments.

Um...Since I live in Southeast, I can't vote for Mayor of the Village of Brewster. So why do youRead More think I, a taxpayer of Southeast, paid for this destruction when I really don't have a clue to what happens in the Village? There's a disconnect that needs to addressed.
