Troopers: Carmel Man Killed in Crash

Officials are unsure whether drug or alcohol-use played a role in the accident.

A 39-year-old Carmel man died early Sunday after the truck he was driving overturned on Beekman Road in Dutchess County, according to State Police.

Officials say Marcus E. Sorbellini died at the scene of the crash, which occurred around 1:45 a.m.

"New York State Troopers were dispatched by Dutchess County 911 to an auto accident on Beekman Road, in the Town of Beekman, in which a vehicle had overturned with injured persons trapped inside the car," authorities said, adding that preliminary investigation suggested Sorbellini was headed north on Beekman Road in Beekman, in his 2006 GMC pickup truck. "...He was north of Baker Road and traveling at an unsafe speed when he failed to negotiate a curve. His truck left the roadway, struck a guide rail, then returned to the roadway where it overturned. "

Sorbellini sustained severe head and neck trauma, according to officials. Passenger Kristen J. Kelly-Gruber, a 37-year-old Carmel resident, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie by Beekman Emergency Medical Services.

First-responders closed the road for about three hours. Both Kelly-Gruber and Sorbellini were reportedly wearing seatbelts.
