One person died and another sustained minor injuries in a crash involving two vehicles on Route 164 in Patterson, according to officials.
The accident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. Monday. The deceased, 85-year-old David W. Mehne of Sherman, CT, was behind the wheel of a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu traveling westbound on Route 164, near Farm to Market Road, when he crossed into the eastbound lane, according to police. The Malibu collided with a 2004 Honda Pilot.
Mehne was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The driver of the Pilot, a 46-year-old Carmel man, was taken by ambulance to the Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel for minor injuries.
State troopers from the Southeast barracks responded. Members of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office and the Patterson Fire Department assisted.
