Troopers Find Pistol, Loaded Magazines During Traffic Stop in Southeast

A Bronx man is facing misdemeanor and felony charges after police found him to be in possession of a stolen handgun and two loaded magazines, according to officials at the Southeast barracks of the State Police.

Troopers arrested Wilfredo F. Rodriguez, 40, at about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday. Rodriguez was a passenger in a minivan that police stopped for equipment and traffic violations on Interstate 84 in Southeast.

A relative was behind the wheel, and the two were reportedly headed from Newburgh to the Bronx.

"...The trooper observed evidence of marijuana use within the vehicle," authorities said in a statement. "Investigation at the scene revealed the subject to be in possession of a 9mm pistol and two magazines loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition. Further investigation showed that the gun had been reported stolen in Norwalk, CT."

Rodriguez is facing misdemeanor charges of unlawful possession of certain ammunition feeding devices, as well as the following felonies: third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Following arraignment, Rodriguez was remanded to the Putnam County Correction Facility without bail. He's due Monday in Southeast Justice Court.
