Troopers: Mahopac Man Steals Checks from Ex, Uses Them at Supermarkets

A 31-year-old Mahopac man is accused of using blank checks he stole from his ex-girlfriend to make purchases at various supermarkets in Putnam and Westchester counties, police said.

Matthew Slader is facing a felony charge of second-degree possession of a forged instrument, state troopers from the Somers barracks announced Tuesday. The arrest follows a lengthy probe by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Slader was arraigned before Somers Town Judge Dennis Timone and sent to Westchester County Jail on $1,000 bail. He is due back in court Dec. 2.
