Troopers: Pit Bull in Putnam Lake Kills 2 Dogs

A pit bull attacked and killed two small dogs in Putnam Lake, police say.

State Police from the Southeast Barracks responded to the scene on Vesper Road around 9 a.m. Saturday. One of the dogs was deceased when they arrived, and the other died a short time later at the veterinarian's office.

Both of the dogs, ages 3 and 7, were on their owner's land at the time, according to officials. The pit bull belongs to a neighbor, and reportedly was loose when it crossed onto the other property.

The dog warden for Patterson was notified, and charges are pending, authorities said. The pit bull is in its owner's custody.
