Troopers: Woman Stole Deceased Relative's Check

She used it to make a purchase in Brewster, according to officials.

A 37-year-old New Fairfield, CT woman is facing misdemeanor and felony charges after she stole a check from a deceased relative and used it to make a purchase, state police said.

Troopers from the Southeast barracks arrested Angela Cioffi Friday.

"Investigation revealed that Cioffi used a check stolen from her deceased mother-in-law's bank account, forged the deceased woman’s signature and used the check to pay for a prescription at a pharmacy located in Brewster," authorities said in a statement.

Police charged Cioffi with second-degree forgery, a felony, and petty larceny, a misdemeanor. She was arraigned and released pending a Jan. 7 appearance in Southeast Justice Court.
