Troopers Write 110 Tickets on I-84

A three-hour speed enforcement operation on Interstate 84 led to 110 tickets this weekend, officials said.

State troopers conducted the detail Sunday afternoon in the Town of East Fishkill. Most of the citations—79, to be exact—were for speeding. The others were given for a variety of traffic infractions, from failing to wear a seat belt to using a cellphone or other electronic device while driving.

Some motorists were ticketed for violating the "move over" law, which requires drivers to slow down and change lanes when law enforcement personnel and emergency responders are stopped on a roadway.

"In an effort to reduce speed-related crashes, improve highway safety and protect those working alongside our roads, New York State Police in Troop K regularly conduct these types of traffic enforcement operations," authorities said in a statement. Troop K covers Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester counties.

I-84 exits 15, 16N and 16S are in East Fishkill. Exit 17 is in Kent, 18 in Patterson, and 19, 20 and 21 in Southeast.
