Brewster Nominates Mattson into Ball's Vets Hall of Fame

Former Staff Sgt. Steven Mattson is Brewster village officials' 2013 nominee for state Sen. Greg Ball's Veterans Hall of Fame, now in its third year.

Ball's office offered this brief bio:

Steven Mattson lives in Brewster, NY with his wife and three children. He has worked in the financial services industry for 15 years. He served in Iraq with the United States Marine Corps, and is active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Putnam County Land Trust and Cub Scout Pack 1.

Steven is a freelance author whose work has appeared in local newspapers and area guides. His love for exploring nature and local history has led him and his family on numerous adventures around Putnam including writing the book and creating the website, “Adventures Around Putnam.”

“The best part of being nominated for this award is the message it sends my kids. They see by my example that it is important to give back to the community, and Veterans have a special place within our community,” Mattson said in the press release.

The 3rd class of veterans will be inducted into the Veterans’ Hall of Fame at 6 p.m. Nov. 21 at Mahopac High School. The public is invited.

Ball's office said: Towns, villages and cities throughout Senator Greg Ball’s district are currently in the process of selecting their nominees. If you would like to nominate someone, please contact your local town board or city council or contact Senator Ball’s office at (845) 279-3773.
