The bill was routinely passed in the New York State Assembly for years before Gov. Cuomo signed it into law.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo Monday ceremoniously signed New York's medical marijuana bill into law, making the Empire State the 23rd state to allow residents to use cannabis for medical reasons.

The governor actually signed the bill Saturday, but he held a ceremony in Manhattan because of its importance.

The bill will be in effect in 18 months, and five companies will be certified to grow and distribute it, according to Syracuse.com. However, the bill does not allow for the drug to be smoked.

Cuomo said the complexities of history of marijuana in the state and the country contributed to the length of time it took to get the legislation right.

"The legislation, I feel confident, gets us the best of what medical marijuana can give us," Cuomo said Monday at the ceremony.

Andy did it only because this is an election year and he wants the votes. Check out the years after an election, for example, 2011. He played "tough" on the budget that year.

I have no objection to the use of marijuana for medical purposes, provided that they actually are legitimate medical purposes. However, I have seen the reality of how this works in California, where it is a complete joke. Out there, for a few dollars any doctor will provide anyone with a prescription for "medical marijuana" on any phony pretext whatever, with no questions asked. I certainly hope it isn't going to be administered that way here.

Really who care Medically or for Recreation use it's a plant that Mother Nature gave us and no one not even our government has any right to tell us what to do with it. They nee to concentrate on not spending so much money on themselves and spend it on the Men & Women who fight to keep this Country Safe, Our forefather's gave up alot for our freedom and this Government is not doing what these Men set out to do just the opposite they are regulating everything around us and dropping the ball on the important things - So you can have your opinion but mine will always be that the Government should stay out of what we the people do with our own lives and bodies when it come to the plants that Mother Nature gave US!!!
