Meet the Candidate: Incumbent Christine Piccini, Village of Brewster Trustee

Christine Piccini has sat on the Village of Brewster Board of Trustees for three terms, and she’s running a write-in campaign in the hopes of continuing her service.

Piccini, a Brewster resident for nearly 30 years, is not registered with any political party. This, she says, allows her to be a “free thinker” and make the best decisions as a trustee.

“I firmly believe in everything we’ve been working toward in the village,” she said, referring to urban renewal efforts. “I believe I’ve been a key player in everything that has gone forward and I want to continue to do everything in my power to rejuvenate things in every way possible way.”

While originally slated to appear on the ballot with the Best for Brewster line, Piccini’s name won’t be there Nov. 5 because of an oversight when it came to a Board of Election deadline.

She’s always believed in being a "make-a-contribution-back-to-your-community type of person”—volunteering on PTAs and other Brewster Central School District groups while her five children attended. She’s hoping that conviction will give voters the motivation to jot down her name instead of coloring in a circle.

Piccini has held the title of deputy mayor since elected to the board in 2007. When asked about her time as a trustee, Piccini cited several initiatives she’s worked on, from reviewing vouchers twice monthly to applying for grants to determining the next use for Garden Street School. She’s proud of her work on the sign law, too; it’s a topic that has ruffled feathers but was “absolutely necessary” because of the “free-for-all” that existed.

Prior to becoming a trustee, she chaired the planning board. She's attended various New York Planning Federation trainings.

Though the decisions are sometimes difficult, Piccini enjoys her time on the board, and the preparation—reading through materials and researching—that comes with it. She likes being "a force of positive change."

"From the first day that I came to the Village of Brewster, I have had the vision of living in a vibrant, charming community," she said. "I have been actively working to realize this vision and would like the opportunity to continue with the task."

Piccini considers herself a public servant, not a politician. When she’s not wearing her trustee hat, Piccini is busy being a grandmother and spending time with her family.

“If I’m taking time away from them,” she said, “you know the endeavor, in my mind, is very worthwhile.”
