Putnam Lawmakers Bring Bike Path Plan Back Up July 22

The controversial proposal would put ads all along the Putnam Trailway.

The Putnam County Board of Legislators tabled the proposal from BikePath County Inc. earlier this month. Tonight they're bringing it back up at the Physical Services Committee meeting.

The proposal for advertising on signs every half-mile of the well-used pathway has drawn fire from many groups and individuals, including David McKay Wilson, a columnist for The Journal News who is also an avid bicyclist and a county resident. Wilson has written a series of columns about the proposal.

In his Tax Watch column July 20, Wilson described a promotional event at the county golf course for county officials business people and residents.

"It was a quintessential Putnam event," he wrote.

The Physical Services Committee meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Putnam County Office Building, Room 318. On the agenda: correspondence from legislators, lawyers and residents.
