Danbury Whole Foods to Open May 17

The Facebook page for Whole Foods in Danbury says the store will open at the Shops at Marcus Dairy on May 17.

Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton toured Whole Foods Wednesday at the Shops at Marcus Dairy, and Whole Foods says the opening is scheduled for May 17.

"They created a hot food bar that looks like Marcus Dairy. It's got that white tile look like the dairy bar," Boughton said.

According to the Whole Foods website, "Whole Foods History Wow! What a ride. Back in 1980, we started out with one small store in Austin, Texas. Today, we’re the world’s leader in natural and organic foods, with more than 340 stores in North America and the United Kingdom."

Boughton said the grocery store plans to buy local produce, where possible. Some of its lumber was recycled from barns and other buildings in the Northeast.
