Mother's Day: Hiking, Sprained Ankles and Wedding Woes

This weekend, our meetup group www.meetup.com/dogsofadventure, took to the hills in the Hudson Valley once again and this time we decided to explore Madam Brett Park and Dennings Point in Cold Spring, NY. Cold Spring is a town that is known for its great hiking spots and I am determined to become a local expert in a few years! To get outside, get active and soak up the Vitamin D is invigorating and life giving, not to mention a great way to keep your figure down without even realizing that you are burning calories in a recreational way.

We started out with a group of about 30 people with their furry dogs and made our way down a paved path which which led to a fork in the road. We took the straight path and ended up walking past the remains of the old brickyard which was owned by Homer & Ramsdell Company in the 1800's until about 1939. Interestingly enough, and great for the local historian buff, the buildings are very much in tact and the trails are broken up by bricks protruding from the mud! The brickyard actually ran out of clay and the decay is a testament to the booming brickyard industry which existed in the 19th century. Past the ruins and across the bridge is a section which is somewhat like a deck which has a great view of the waterfall and there are a few walkways down to the water where you pooch or even you can wade and cool off.

After this our group split as some people did not want to continue for the remaining 3 miles as we headed over to Dennings Point. I was taking some pictures and unfortunately I did not pay the keen attention to my surroundings and fell into a small sink hole, twisting my ankle! Quite embarrassing to tell you the truth and to make matters worse, that Sunday was 7 days from my wedding. I now have a twisted ankle! We will see how that goes as I try to walk in heels on the 18th :)

All in all, the hike was a great success and all of our Moms whether mothers to little furry pets or to both humans and canine creatures, had a great time.
