This Dog Can Swallow My Head

So....take a look at this English mastiff. He can definitely swallow my head. But did he? No. I was able to cuddle up next to him and get this great picture on a Friday morning!

As I sit here at Barnes & Noble on Christmas Eve sipping on a Caramel Mocha, I find myself drifting through Facebook and half browsing books as if I am in a library (I never buy, free reading on Kindle app in Barnes and Noble= free and enjoyable reading experience). Here is my random and stereotypical blogging B & N moment (feel free to give me "side eye")  .

Guard your influence.

No matter what position you are in whether big or small. You have influence. The greater the responsibility associated with your position the more people are looking to you for guidance and leadership or the more they are tearing you down behind your back for lack of competency.

Just because you have influence and position does not mean you have to use that power to weigh heavily on those around you. Look at this Mastiff! I have said that before, but I mean look at him. He weighs more than me (thank God it isn't the other way around), has a mouth that could rip my hands to mince meat but instead he is docile and carries his power with grace. His owner told me that he actually has a bed that he sleeps on with pillows. Who knew.

If your aspiration is to rise the ranks in life, as you gain more responsibility be very careful how you do everything. If you gain more responsibility and you come off too strong you will not only crush someone else with negativity but sour action will not be conducive to your development or theirs. Grow into your position, seek advice and feedback from everyone. Each of us is a sponge and capable of learning so much from those around us. Become that person that helps people to cooperate with one another instead of causing them to compete or fight with one another. Remember, no matter where you work or what you do, how you operate has the ability to carry authority. Challenge yourself to be like this mastiff and carry your weight but always exude an easy and gentle demeanor. You will be admired for your strength instead of scoffed at by your bark.
