Who Is Taking Care of Your Pets? The Future of Care.

Recently, Evan Kanouse and I had the opportunity to speak to over 100 veterinary technician students at SUNY Delhi about communication as a veterinary technician. While there I could not help but notice that some students were slumped over and looked like they wanted to sleep and the marked difference in their peers who were bright eyed, attentive and taking notes!

All I could think of was: Who is going to take care of my pet in the future? I looked out into the audience and there was definitely different levels of motivation. Maybe it was a bad day for some students however the level of motivation shown in the classroom is the same level of motivation which will be shown in the workplace. It is a slow death to put work into a career where there is no passion. It does not pay for the employee, the employer or the clients that are being served.

I would suggest any student who is looking into a prospective career in any type of field to volunteer first to make sure that the passion is there. Productivity cannot exist without passion. When there is passion, you will wake up each day ready to face the day and as my sister's fiance says "I'm gonna just rock everything!". Meaning, each day is a day to take charge, learn and get things done with a zeal and passion which is equal to pleasurable play.
