The results came in around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday. A group of about 15 people, including Superintendent Dr. Jane Sandbank, Board of Education trustees, building administrators and community members, waited for the numbers in the lobby of . Many of them cheered and hugged when Gavin announced the results.

Voter turnout was down from last year, when 1,272 opted for the budget, and 934 blacked in the "no" circle on the ballot sheet.

The 2012-2013 budget comes in at $84,074,419. That's a 2.2 percent hike from this year's budget, which totals at $82,235,776. It eliminates several part and full-time instructional positions from a range of departments—reading, math, social studies, speech and more. It also slashes a number of non-instructional jobs.

With a tax levy increase of 1.8 percent, the budget meets the requirements of the newly imposed tax cap. Individual school taxes depend on the assessment of a resident's home.
