Brewster Schools to Dismiss Early Friday

All after-school activities are cancelled, too.

Students at the Brewster Central School District will start their weekend one hour earlier Friday thanks to an early dismissal decision by administrators who cited "impending inclement weather."

An email sent from the district Friday morning noted that afternoon kindergarten would be in session, and listed dismissal times as follows:

  • Brewster High School: 1:20 p.m.
  • Henry H. Wells Middle School: 1:36 p.m.
  • C.V. Starr Intermediate School: 2:15 p.m.
  • John F Kennedy Elementary School: 2:25 p.m.

As of 11 a.m. Friday, reports from the National Weather Service called for cloudy skies and a high of about 21 degrees in Brewster for the afternoon. The evening may bring some light snow, along with cloudy skies and a low of 8 degrees.

Neither Carmel nor Mahopac showed early dismissals on district websites Friday.

Mr. Moskowitz,
The impending, minimal inclement weather is called for THIS EVENING. Early dimissal is totally unnecessary and only serves to inconvenience parents!

I agree with Niikki, above. I have checked 3 different weather forecasts, including the National Weather Service, and there is NO indication that there will be significant "inclement weather" for this area. The only winter storm I see will be hitting significantly south of here, in the DC area. What weather forecast is the BCSD basing this early dismissal on?
