Fall sports may have wrapped up, but the cheerleaders are still going strong. On Monday, the squad will compete in the Westchester County Cheerleading Invitational in White Plains.
“[The girls] always look forward to competing at [the] County Center," varsity coach Jaime Ferrucio said. “It’s the largest venue that they compete at, so it's a little intimidating, but very exciting."
The event, which runs over two days and has been taking place for more than 60 years, features teams from high schools in Putnam and Westchester. Along with the competition, Ferrucio says "Scholarships are awarded at this event, and we hope to have a recipient from Brewster!”
While the team looks to take home a scholarship for one of its members and a win for the team overall, Ferrucio also stresses the importance of learning and growing.
“Competitions are a great opportunity for teams to see new skills/choreography and get them excited to push themselves harder to try new skills,” she says. “I hope they leave [the] County Center with a stronger drive to excel in their sport and push themselves to higher limits!”
So after all the cheering the squad does for other teams, let’s offer up our support to them. Post your thoughts, well wishes, cheers and more in the comments. Have photos? Post them to this article, as well. (For complete instructions on adding photos, click .)
