VIDEO: High School Vote to Determine BCSD Mock Election Winner

Even some of the youngest Brewster students participated.

The mock election results for three out of four of the Brewster Central Schools showed President Barack Obama leading by a narrow margin, 550-478, Monday afternoon.

Seniors in the Brewster High School leadership class, led by social studies teacher Nicole Rogener, organized the event. So far, students at John F Kennedy Elementary School, C.V. Starr Intermediate School and Henry H. Wells Middle School have voted. Some checked a box on a sheet of paper and others popped their candidate's name into an online form.

On Tuesday, the high schoolers will have the chance to make their pick by casting a ballot in a voting booth. Afterward, the leadership class will tally the final votes and announce the winner. When the process is complete, students in first through twelfth grades—with the exception of fifth-graders—will have voted in the mock election.

Organizers planned for the voting to take place last week, but Hurricane Sandy caused five days of cancellations. Instead, students in the leadership class were forced to conduct most of the event Monday, and finish up Tuesday. The fifth-graders were unable to vote because of a scheduling conflict.

Um...Since I live in Southeast, I can't vote for Mayor of the Village of Brewster. So why do youRead More think I, a taxpayer of Southeast, paid for this destruction when I really don't have a clue to what happens in the Village? There's a disconnect that needs to addressed.
