Concerts Around the Corner, Welcome to the Steinway Piano

Concerts Around the Corner                                                                                                                                                                               Welcome to the Steinway Piano!

The Cultural Arts Coalition will present the first of our 2013 Concerts Around the Corner on Saturday, July 20th at 7:30PM, at the Studio Around the Corner featuring chamber music for strings and piano.  We are pleased to announce our acquisition of a Steinway L Series grand piano, on extended loan from Cheryl Palmer & Estate of Edward H Vito, Sr., made possible in part by the generosity of Rob and Stefani Goselink. An accomplished pianist and harpist, Mr. Vito immigrated to the US at the turn of the twentieth century and began his musical career by playing harp in the streets of Chicago. He later became the harpist for the NBC Symphony under Toscanini and taught piano with this instrument at the University of Miami. This fine instrument was made in 1936 is the perfect addition to the intimate setting of the Studio Around the Corner.

The highlight of the program is Robert Schumann's glorious quintet for piano and strings.  The quintet was written in 1842 and held deeply personal meaning for Schumann.  Schumann finally married Clara Wieck, after years of separation, in1840. Schumann wrote this piece for her and she loved it, performing it throughout her life. In addition to being an accomplished composer, Clara established an international career as a piano virtuoso of the first rank. The program also includes Haydn's "Gypsy" Trio and J.S. Bach's Air and Largo.
