Caroling For A Cause: People Sing For Tails and Paws

Putnam Humane Society hosts holiday sing-a-long.

Several months ago John Hyland of Southeast had to put down his longtime four-legged companion and said, "It was the hardest thing I've ever done." He talked with a close friend and told him that even as time went on, he was having a hard time dealing with the loss. The friend suggested a trip to the Putnam Humane Society in Carmel.

On Saturday afternoon, Hyland was dressed as Santa and by his side, also dressed in Christmas regalia was his new dog, Rosie, whom he had adopted from the shelter several weeks ago after her owner passed away leaving no one to care for her.

The Putnam Humane Society hosted a caroling event and residents joined volunteers and staff at the shelter to sing holiday songs, enjoy hot chocolate, take pictures with Santa, make a donation or possibly adopt a new pet.

Throughout the day, people stopped by with food, blankets and animal toys and enjoyed singing along or just listening to the holiday cheer.
