Day Trip: This Linear Park Offers an Extraordinary Experience

Walkway Over the Hudson is within easy reach of Brewster.

Opened in 2009, Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park has become one of the region’s—the state’s—most popular destinations.

That’s not hard to understand, given its extraordinary views up and down the river from 200 feet up.

It was a 100-year-old railroad bridge when a bunch of Hudson Valley visionaries got the idea. Now it is a linear walkway spanning the Hudson River.

“At 212 feet tall and 1.28 miles long, it is the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world,” according to the nonprofit group Walkway Over the Hudson which made it happen and which still supports the park.

The entrance on the east side of the river is at 61 Parker Ave., Poughkeepsie NY, so put that in your GPS or click here for directions.
