@Lisa Buchman: I'm not Ann Fanizzi, but one of my own pet peeves about residential or businesseRead More developments is when they're constructed on ridgelines, like the development in the picture above. It ruins the view for everyone else. It would be great if we had some sort of regulation against ridgetop construction and also perhaps a certain percentage of mandated open space.
Southeaster May 25, 2013 at 09:03 pm
I fear that developers are determined to build on every last parcel of land. Yes, current residentsRead More were once newcomers, too, but if we welcome more people and businesses endlessly, we won't have a small town anymore; we'll have a city. Do we really want to live in the next Danbury or Poughkeepsie? Also agree with Trish that town roads should not be held hostage by Metro-North!
Lisa Buchman (Editor) May 22, 2013 at 01:37 pm
Interesting point Ann. What would residents here accept? What would you not mind looking at? DoesRead More anyone know of any developments in rural areas that have complemented the landscape - in towns nearby or otherwise?

Rob Astorino claims "Families don't go to Playland anymore." But when I was there on aRead More rainy cold opening day on Saturday, I was SURROUNDED by nothing but families - even HIS family was there. They all came out in the lousy weather to have a good time. Parents and kids and grandparents and every combo of aunt uncle cousin etc. you could imagine, all different colors, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, many different languages being spoken, everyone happy to see the place open again, getting along, smiling, having a good time. I think I was about the only person there who *wasn't* with kids. Families families families. But...don't you know...families don't go to Playland anymore? People love Playland. They want to see it brought back to life as a vibrant amusement park, not dismantled for a grassy field and indoor sports facility.

See... caught doing exactly what you accuse everyone else of. Making statements...without having anyRead More proof! Send me the link! What you fail to recognize is I could care less why she was there. I made my opinion based on the way I felt about her placing herself back around the same people, where all this started. She had a clean break if she desired, yet for whatever reason she chose to go back. You can't tell the families your sorry, you can't show "the important people" the people that you now say you want to be a part of, that you mean what you say when your actions show something else. So all that "What's the bottom line"? "In the meantime answer me this and that" ? who ever said I owed you any explanation. I think I have made myself very clear, and so have you! Common sense Tells us why people do things. Although we don't seem to have none in common...Done with that@!

nice post. Who was this “crazy” man? Teaching and healing throughout the land. ClaimingRead More to be sent by God to deliver his word. This task given to a simple commoner, how absurd. Why didn’t he select a king or a President? Or at least a mansion’s rich resident? Words from these men can go a long way, As we prove by obeying them each day. Maybe send a lawyer, judge or magistrate? For many men have they sealed their fate, But they judge by a different book, Not through the heart do they look, Maybe send a doctor to heal our ills, I’m sure they too wish it was as simple as pills, He’s sent rabbis, priests and cardinals apparently to look, For their heads be buried too deep in their books, Maybe send a teacher and such, Would they concentrate on filling just the head too much? Maybe send the soldier with all his might, Maybe God didn’t want to start another fight? So did I forget any position in life? Who could bring his word without all the strife? Of judging each man by comparing one to another, This can only serve to turn brother against brother, For no one starts at the same spot, From the time we are all just little tots, Till we turn wrinkled, withered, and gray, Only we can find our way, To a better world of joy and peace, No more pain, we’ve killed the beast, But take if from one of this “crazy” guy’s most loving fans, God knew he had to send a “common” man. For in the end we will see, a common man like he, shall save both you and me.
