Rob Astorino claims "Families don't go to Playland anymore." But when I was there on a…Read More rainy cold opening day on Saturday, I was SURROUNDED by nothing but families - even HIS family was there. They all came out in the lousy weather to have a good time. Parents and kids and grandparents and every combo of aunt uncle cousin etc. you could imagine, all different colors, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, many different languages being spoken, everyone happy to see the place open again, getting along, smiling, having a good time. I think I was about the only person there who *wasn't* with kids. Families families families. But...don't you know...families don't go to Playland anymore? People love Playland. They want to see it brought back to life as a vibrant amusement park, not dismantled for a grassy field and indoor sports facility.

Ha! I wouldn't call the owner of that plaza a "developer" by any means. He took a broken…Read More down plaza and made it look great. Does anyone remember how long that space sat vacant? If you make a dumb law that legislates taste everyone gets hurt in the process, especially the business owner. Sure, all uniform signage is a good concept, but we live in a diverse and not so cohesive community. I wonder if anyone cried about about the signage when the Cameo Theatre went in the village in the 1930s? It was neon, 3D, stuck out above Main Street. That would not muster with any sign code today, and it was a site to behold back then or even the Town of Southeast's office sign. Tastes change, but that's what they are, tastes. Not everyone likes a certain taste and we should not be using the long sign permit and zoning variance process for a massive money grab. We have taxes for that! Southeast provides a good bulk of the sales tax dollars for the county, if we want to keep that revenue stream going, we need to let business do business. It keeps property taxes down as well. It's a shame this supermarket had to close, I wish it would have moved into the Village on Main Street. It's sorely needed.
(PS. Although called "Village" Supermarket, it wasn't in the Village at all, it was in the Town of Southeast)
