I SHALL know why, when time is over, And I have ceased to wonder why; Christ will explain eachRead More separate anguish In the fair schoolroom of the sky. He will tell me what Peter promised, And I, for wonder at his woe, I shall forget the drop of anguish That scalds me now, that scalds me now. Emily Dickenson

I am so sorry to hear that Mr. Bruen died. The Bruen family had been an integral part of ourRead More growing up in the Saint Lawrence O'Toole church/school. But what I will never, ever forget is how Mr. Bruen made a point of stopping by every once in a while to visit my bedridden, dying mother back in 2004. Our family really appreciated his thoughtfulness and kindness, and his visits brightened my mum's day each time. For that I am in his debt. My sincere condolences to the entire Bruen family. One of the many things that I always admired about Seeger is that when he was dragged before HUAC heRead More stood up for his principles. He didn't try to save his own career by naming names. His career suffered for decades because of the courage he showed protecting all of our right's to free speech and thought. When darkness and fear threatened to overtake the land Pete lit a candle and didn't go gently into the night.

It is a mighty tribute to Pete Seeger that all of us know the words to "This Land is YourRead More Land". Pete gave Woodie Guthrie's song to us. Pete also gave us the Gospel song "We Shall Overcome". Another song we sing with fervor. On his banjo, there is a circle of words, "This machine surrounds hate and forces it to surrender." May we all think this way. Thank You Pete Seeger.
