Brewster Track Closed For Renovations:

For residents who frequent The Brewster High School track will be closed for public use during scheduled renovations to begin on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 through early July, 2013. After numerous repairs over the last 13 years, the well-worn surface will be entirely renovated and brought up to regulation, by Copeland Industries, the company awarded the project after a district RFP process. For the first time ever, the state-of-the-art track and field renovation will set the course for fitness and competition at Brewster High School. “To make something like this happen is an incredible collaboration of grant funds, school funds and community support,” said Patrice Bedrosian, parent volunteer. After years of dialogue and requests from the community, the project has come to fruition due to a NYS grant secured by Dr. Joe Castagnola, Principal of Brewster High School. Additional funds were secured from the Brewster Sports Foundation and the small remainder needed was approved by the Brewster Board of Education earlier this year. A public announcement will be made once the track is open for use, which is expected later this summer. A community-wide “re-opening” celebration is set to coincide with the 36th Annual Brewster Bear Classic in October, 2013. Taking a step in the right direction, student athletes from the Brewster Track and Field have had a stellar season thus far, according to Joe Scelia, Coach, Brewster High School Track and Field. This spring, both the boys and girls varsity track & field teams won the League 1-B team titles. Freshman Kevin Hazelwood and Mike Delfay qualified for the New Balance Track & Field Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina. They will be running in the freshman mile at Nationals on Saturday, June 15th. Team results this spring can be found at ny.milesplit.com. # # #
