Hossu Rape Case Destined for County Court

Once the personal trainer of the Putnam County district attorney, Alexandru Hossu is now under indictment.

Hossu was indicted by a grand jury June 18, according to lohud.com. Reporter Shawn Cohen wrote that "Hossu, 35, testified for two hours Friday before the grand jury voted to indict him on two counts of first-degree rape."

The victim was Hossu's girlfriend's daughter, who was 12 at the time, police and prosecutors allege.

The case has caused trouble among the county's top officials.

Sheriff Donald B. Smith and District Attorney Adam Levy engaged in a public dispute about the connection between Levy and Hossu, who lived with the DA for a period of time. County Executive MaryEllen Odell called for the Sheriff's Office to step aside from the investigation.

Putnam's two county judges have recused themselves, and an administrative judge must be named.
