At a recent Eastern Putnam County League of Women Voters candidate forum, Alvarez (R) shared some information about himself with community members. According to his statements that night, he:
(Personal)
- Was born and raised in Manhattan
- Moved to Southeast in 1995, because he "loves this town and the community"
- Has been married to his wife for 20 years,
- Has a 14-year-old son, who attends Brewster Central schools
(Education, Career)
- Earned a bachelor's degree from Manhattan College
- Is currently pursuing a master's degree
- Has been in the health care industry for 21 years, 16 of which he served in some sort of management role
- Has overseen several multi-million dollar budgets
- Has managed staffs that ranged from 16 to approximately 100 people
- Served a total of six years in the U.S. Army
(Community, Local Government)
- Has "supported and been a friend to the Brewster Education Foundation" over the years
- Serves on the Southeast Planning Board, as he has for the last four years
- Says that a seat on the Town Board "would provide a great opportunity to continue to serve the community."
- Says he would like to do so with "integrity, responsibility and accountability"
- Says that because he is a taxpayer and a homeowner, with a child in the Brewster school system, he "can relate to any frustrations that people may have in regards to the expenses in the town and the current dysfunction we’ve seen in the last couple years"
- Would "keep an open mind" when it comes to working with Village of Brewster officials on potential consolidation of services (specifically trash and water)
- Believes it would be his responsibility as a Town Board member to represent the residents, especially when it comes to budget decisions
- Is against de-funding the Brewster Public Library to achieve a zero-percent budget increase
- Says that teamwork and collaboration are missing on the current Town Board
- Believes he has the "knowledge and skill set" to "lead people," but is also "humble enough to be led"
- Believes in "smart growth" when it comes to new businesses
- Will work hard as a councilman so that others can enjoy what he has enjoyed over the last 16 years as a resident
- Is running on the "Integrity for Southeast" committee

How much did you pay that washed up comedian to spew his libelous claims? I'm sure we'll see that on your campaign filings. Let's see if Rights can beat his last record of spending $250,000 on a campaign. Please don't be folled and let him buy another election.

It is a shame that when good people want to run for office, they are attacked.
bottom line stop hiding behind screen names, and if you have something to say, sign your post with your real name, but i doubt you will be brave enough to do that.

The Risk Managers report found the lowest carting bidder to have no license to operate, insufficient trucks to do the job, and marginal at best, safety and maintenance. Would you support such a vendor. I could not responsibly do such a thing. Dozens and dozens of responsible citizens have worked in our state senate office over the years. I was employed by the NYS Senate to handle constituent concerns in education, veterans affairs, and Homeland Security. My part time position was a unique experience. My position at state was a budget cut in early 2009. My public record is open for review by anyone. The Hudson Valley Trust is devoted to historical preservation in the Hudson Valley. The Lawlor Building was built back up by the trust; 47 acres of sensitive nature trails and watershed were saved from development. The trust has never been investigated for any wrong doing. Neither myself or any others on the Board were ever the target of any investigation. Michael Rights' history of disregard for our laws and procedures is well known. His reprehensible behavior at public meetings has been an embarrassment. He is in another zone. Roger Gross, Councilman

"At that meeting, Town Supervisor Michael Rights proposed a resolution seconded by Councilmember Dwight Yee, to award the residential refuse removal contract to AAA, the lowest responsible bidder. The resolution was defeated three to two."
"During that discussion, Councilmember Yee and Town Supervisor Rights expressed grave concern that the Town was awarding the contract to a higher bidder."
"In conclusion, the Town Board acted arbitrarily, capriciously, and in violation of the provisions of General Municipal Law § 103 and Town Law § 122 in awarding the contract to Suburban rather than to AAA."

Wow, typical Mike Rights, he pays a comedian to do a routine (and not that good of a routine) to bash the competition, yet doesn't have courage to face anyone and debate. Mr. Rights, why would you pay over $250,000.00 of your money to be the supervisor of southeast? As for the paid for commericials, the other canidates just need to show the voters how you run the town by watching the meetings....reality check.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlAsP1faSHI&feature=related

I've known Edwin Alvarez for six years now. He is a good person who would give you the shirt off his back. He is exactly the type of person this community needs in a leadership role. He cares about the town of Southeast and will do everything he can to make this a better community for us all. He is a regular guy who wants to serve his community.
Roger Gross has served on the Brewster school board and was a teacher himself. From my conversations with him I can see how much he cares about people, and the children of this community. Like Edwin, he is also an incredible person who wants to serve his community and make it a better place for all.
If you talk to Tony, Roger, Edwin or Michelle you will not feel like you are talking to politicians, rather you will be talking to regular people who want what's best for our community.

It's funny how this is an article on Edwin. Yet the Rights/Yee team switched it to Leibell. We are the "one" town, that Leibell had no control or hold. It appears that they realize that there is nothing that they can lie about regarding Ed. He is a all around nice guy.

Two Risk managers found the deficiencies of the lowest bidder. The lowest bidder was NOT responsible and SHOULD have been disqualified at that point. Further, the NYS Supreme Court in unamious decision supported awarding of the contract to Sani-Pro.
Even the Court of Appeals did not indicate that the lowest bidder should have received the contract. We were correct then and correct today whoever your are, Michael?

Michael, will you be crashing the Elk's BBQ this afternoon? You really should at least pay your way when you take advantage of these groups for your politics. Does anybody else notice that Rights doesn't have anybody to talk to at any public event? How can somebody live in Town for this many years and not have any friends? How many events have you been asked to leave in the last few years? BEF? Fire house? Men who cook? I'm sure there were more... right?

It's a shame that the debate wasn't recorded. Edwin showed how much he cared about our community and what a true gentleman he is. It will be refreshing to have a board that actually works together and treats each other with respect.
