Southeast Family Mourns Loss of Son After Crash, 'Will Miss Him Forever'

Tall. Handsome. Intelligent. Shy. A little mischievous.

That's how Robert Sechny described his son Adam M. Sechny on Tuesday afternoon, pausing every few words to take a deep breath and regain control of his trembling voice. Robert was reading from notes he put together after learning that the 26-year-old . 

"I wrote something down," he said before sharing a few memories of Adam. "It's going to be very hard for me."

Robert could not speak for very long, but he recalled the last time he saw his son was about a week ago, when the two went to see Casablanca at the AMC Loews cinema in Danbury, CT. The theater was offering select special showings of the film, in honor of its 70th anniversary.

"He liked movies, new and old ... He liked music from the 1950s to the present," Robert said of Adam. "I tried to get together with him whenever I could."

Adam, a graduate, was living in an apartment in Danbury with roommates. For the past five years he had been working as a warehouse supervisor for Southeast-based PediFix, Inc., a company that produces footcare items.

"He would often stop by the house when he was in the area," Robert said, adding that Adam's "excellent computer skills" would come in handy when his grandparents or mother and father needed some help figuring out an electronic device.

Other hobbies of Adam's included catching mixed martial arts matches in person and on television. He trained for about three years, Robert said, and still enjoyed the sport.

None of Adam's other family members were available for comment on Tuesday. They are slated to  on Friday, which is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. at .

"I will miss him forever," Robert said. "This is very difficult."

Adam was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. Monday on Route 22, just north of the intersection with Deans Corner Road. 

Police said the crash occurred when a northbound 2008 Nissan X-Terra SUV "apparently drifted left of the double yellow-line no passing zone and into the path" of Adam's 2001 Ford Focus sedan, which was heading south. 

Erin E. Bertram, of Perch Drive in Mahopac, was driving the Nissan, according to authorities. She was injured and taken to  for treatment, and was released the same day, according to public relations spokesperson Diane Burke. 

Bertram received a traffic ticket for driving left in a no-passing zone, and will reportedly be scheduled to appear in Southeast Justice Court at a later date.

Chief Investigator A. Gerald Schramek would not comment on whether drugs, alcohol, electronic devices or speed factored into the crash. A story by Terence Corcoran on LoHud.com reports that officials say there are no indications that alcohol or drugs were involved.

"The accident remains under investigation by members of the Sheriff's Accident Reconstruction Team and Bureau of Criminal Investigation," Schramek said in a statement to Patch Tuesday afternoon.
