Bear Sightings Reported in Brewster, Southeast

A couple of folks have recently spotted bears in the area.

Here's what Lynne Eckardt, resident and Town of Southeast councilwoman, wrote in an email to the online group Brewster10509 Thursday morning: 

There was a small black bear within six feet of my back door this morning. So for all of you in the Drewville/Maple Road area bring in small pets, birdseed and grills (it knocked mine over). The Sheriff's Department is tracking the bear. 

Another resident wrote of a recent sighting at the pool in Southeast's Blackberry Hill Village, and someone else reportedly saw one on Meadow Lane in the Village of Brewster Wednesday.
