Brewster Theater Company to Debut 'Plumfield, Iraq' This Weekend

Plumfield, Iraq
, a production that tells of a young soldier's battle with post-traumatic stress disorder after serving in Iraq, is opening this weekend in Southeast.

"The talents of local actors ages 15-25 accompanied by digital lighting, stunning video and special effects, 'Plumfield, Iraq' is the first of its kind produced in BTC’s twelve-year history, and its subject matter is proving to both educational and inspiring to all involved," Director Stacy Dumont said. "Although the show has been in rehearsal for over a month, daily discoveries about the drama’s intent are slowly uncovered."

The show is not politically motivated, Producer Joe Beahm said.

"It is a work of art that touches on raw human emotion," he told Patch. "...You will leave with a greater admiration for not only our veterans, but also for the family members and friends of veterans who also have a 'readjustment' to make. While the language and content can be a bit harsh at times, we would like our entire community to come out and join us in honoring our veterans and shedding light on a subject that is often misconstrued."

Plumfield has been a "tremendous learning experience for everyone involved," according to Beahm.

"The story has you in its arms and heart from the first few lines," Beahm said. "I grew up in Brewster and graduated from Brewster High School. I can tell you from personal experience that the tight knit group of friends that this production centers around, exactly mimics many of the circles of friends I have seen while going through high school, and now working at the very same facility."

The show will premiere 8 p.m. Friday at The Melrose Community in Southeast (on Federal Hill Road). Additional performances are slated for Saturday and Sunday, as well as June 7 and June 8.

Anyone younger than 16 should be accompanied by a guardian "to help explain what they are seeing," Beahm said.
