Maloney Joins with U.S. Chamber to Oppose Counterproductive Tea Party Political Games

Washington, D.C. -  Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18) joined with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to vote against the House Republicans’ new proposed continuing resolution. Last week, Republican leaderspostponed a vote on the continuing resolution to fund the government after “a revolt by Tea Party conservatives. In addition, numerous Republican leaders have called this resolution the “dumbest idea I’ve ever heard,” “a suicide note,” and “a silly effort.”

“My neighbors in the Hudson Valley sent me here because they were tired of the Tea Party’s gimmicks.  I came here to get them results, and that’s why I’m just as frustrated as they are that the Tea Party is once again playing a dangerous political game with the lives of ordinary Americans by threatening a shutdown and putting Social Security claims, military pay, veterans benefits, and hurricane relief at risk.”

Rep. Maloney was formerly a senior advisor to President Bill Clinton. During the Clinton administration, the government went dark twice during which 800,000 workers were sent home during the first shutdown and 284,000 were sent home during the later shutdown.
